I have always liked math for the sole purpose I was good at it, and up until high school it was the easiest thing I had ever done. Until I met Discrete math, I took the class without knowing anything but the teacher. The very first day we were challenged by a puzzle that took the entire block to even begin to understand how to solve this question, and since then there has been nothing but puzzles and brainteasers that I have done nothing but enjoy. I surely do enjoy questions that don’t work in a linear path. Such as questions lacking ordinary answers or multiple answers.
Math has always been taught to me as a very straightforward subject, something that needs to be done quickly, something based around quantity. Discrete has taught me many things from math’s ability to have problems revolving around quality, to how anyone and everyone is a mathematician. This philosophy has taught me a lesson of indifference between a math teacher and I.
Currently in Discrete Math we are learning to try to see a problem with not only one linear solution, but with many different strategies you can take to solve any and all problems you come across math related or not. I feel that this class goes much further than a simple on the surface math class. I believe this class will teach much more than just math, but life lessons you can take with you forever.
